Extending Reality with Professor Lincoln Gerathy
The Centre for Creative and Immersive XR (CCIXR) is the UK’s first integrated digital facility in virtual, augmented and extended realities; it includes a wide range of technologies that blend virtual and physical worlds together to create fully immersive experiences. Come and enjoy this world-class facility for yourself at our interactive open evening.
A talk by Professor Gerathy, “Catching a Pokémon in a Pandemic”, where he will discuss the impact of how COVID-19 turned a social mobile app game into a lone activity but the playing community pulled together to stay upbeat and engaged. Gerathy hopes his talk on fans and fandom shows just how much Pokémon GO and the social connections it helps to create can provide a network of support for local players.
The community’s love for the game and desire to keep in touch shows how important playing Pokémon Go was and still is in the city as players enjoy exploring Portsmouth’s local neighbourhoods and parks as well as meeting fellow players for events and festivities.
