Rider Spoke from Ports Fest

Rider Spoke

Dates: 30 June | 1 July | 2 July | 3 July
Running time: approximately 1 hour starting every 15 minutes between 13:00 - 20:00.

Immerse yourself in the hidden stories of Portsmouth residents as you take an hour-long, bike ride around our city, accompanied by a delicate score. Remember the people and moments in your life that mean the most. Record messages and share them with strangers you will never meet as you search for the perfect place to hide a secret.

If you would like to see more of Portsmouth - this is the event for you! Whether you bring your own bike, borrow one from us at our hub or take part using one of our accessible options, you will begin a journey that lets you see the city with new eyes. As you explore, you get to choose: whether to listen to strangers’ stories and secrets recorded by your fellow riders or to record ones of your own.

Rider Spoke is a groundbreaking interactive experience from BAFTA nominated, award winning artists Blast Theory. The work premiered at the Barbican to a sold-out season and has since toured worldwide to 23 cities.

During the induction, you will be provided with a smartphone on your handlebars and a voice in your ear that will ask you questions about your life, searching for a place to hide your answer to each one.

Please note:
- To take part you are provided with a Smartphone that attaches to your handlebars. Bring your own bike or borrow one from us for free.
- Accessible options are available for non-cyclists including wheelchair users, mobility scooters and participating on foot.
- Starting times available every 15 minutes. Your ride will last approximately 60 minutes.
